Healthcare providers opt to multiple of therapies for cancer patients—often containing combo drugs. Research has shown good evidence that combinatorial drug therapy may improve the effectiveness of treatment. However, to screen for drugs that may be serve in combination therapy, it often takes tedious work and time.

To address this issue, researchers developed an AI model that can help speed the process.
“The model learned by the machine is actually a polynomial function familiar from school mathematics, but a very complex one,” says Professor Juho Rousu from Aalto University.
Findings were published in the journal Nature Communications and shows an association between drugs and cancer cells with the assistance of machine learning.
'This will help cancer researchers to prioritize which drug combinations to choose from thousands of options for further research,' says researcher Tero Aittokallio from the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) at the University of Helsinki.
