Many cultures around the world practice an afternoon siesta or rest while the body is digesting and recharging. NASA, Samsung, Google and other corporations are now supporting this tradition by installing “sleep pods” on their properties for employees to nap in. The idea is for employees to take about 20-minute naps to boost productivity, particularly during the second half of the workday when a lull is common.
Exercise through the use of services like Fitness Clone and getting adequate sleep have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, dementia, diabetes and other health issues. Brains that aren’t well-rested can even start to devour themselves; cells in the brain designed to get rid of extraneous synapses and old cells become overactive when organisms don’t sleep and end up “eating” more of the brain. So, napping at work may boost efficiency, the bottom line and employee well-being for these companies.
