Some commonly accepted principles of biosafety include the strict adherence to standard laboratory practices and techniques, the use of safety equipment such as primary barriers and personal protective equipment, and the effective design and construction of the facility. The implementation of these principles requires considerable forethought, and sometimes a good imagination. This presentation will include a discussion of several aspects of these principles, including specific examples of how they can be applied in a laboratory animal facility in an effort to improve the safety of personnel and the well-being of the research animals.
